About Me

Hello, my name is Kieran Price and I am a Web Designer based in the South West of England. I started creating websites in 2009 and soon found that I loved the whole process of creating properly crafted content for the internet. Since then my skills have developed to include PHP and Javascript programming as well as working with more complex software such as Wordpress and Zen Cart. If you would like to hire me for work please send me an email.

About this website

Every page of this website contains the same information. The only thing which changes from page to page is the CSS styling and maybe some minor alterations to the markup (XHTML). Clicking the links at the top of the page will not change the basic information, only the design layout of each page. I hope you like my showcase. Thanks for coming to have a look.

Web Standards

I use a standards based approach to website design, but I understand that can mean different things to different people. For me web standards are about embracing the diversity that exists throughout the internet and taking an inclusive approach to website usability. It also means making sites that work across the broadest spectrum of technology and browser software. Sticking to the standards laid out by the W3C and promoted by “evangelists” such as Jeffrey Zeldman and Dan Cederholm means that sites are easy to view, platform independent and reliable.

What about Internet Explorer 6 & 7?

If you are viewing this page in IE6/7 it will look very different to seeing it in later browsers. If I were designing a site where a significant share of visitors were using older browsing software I would design the site very differently, saving the special treatment for people with more capable software. I believe that the choice of styling should reflect the choice of browser technology. I want you to see this site in the best possible way and that is why I have chosen to sideline IE6/7, not because I don‘t respect the market share still held by those technologies. To further this point we can look at the current statistics. IE currently has a total share of 22% of the browser market. Of that 22% only 6.4% were made up by IE6/7.

City Style

This theme leads with an urban, gritty style that allows the main graphic to dominate the page. I was quite happy to let most of the content fall below the fold since there is no big link or product to emphasise. The pink styling for navigation gave the page a bit of “pop” that lifted it from being too dark and oppressive.
